David de Gea offered £200k-a-week Man Utd deal
Manchester United have offered keeper David de Gea the chance to join their A-list wage earners by offering him a £10.5m-a-year contract to stay at Old Trafford.
De Gea has been widely expected to leave United and join Real Madrid, after he declined the club's initial offers to renew his contract and suggested he wanted to keep his options open and make a decision this summer.
That led most observers to believe the Spaniard had his heart set on replacing Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu, but reports in recent days suggests 24-year-old keeper is keen to stay at United.
Now leaks from Old Trafford sources have suggested De Gea is being offered the kind of contract that any player would struggle to walk away from, with the £200,000-a-week deal being offered to him a deal he is currently pondering with his advisers.
De Gea has told United chiefs that he is not eager to leave the club and will weigh up all his options before making a decision at the end of this season and Old Trafford chiefs have been given fresh hope in recent days that he may stay.
That hope may be diluted somewhat by Spanish reports in recent weeks suggesting De Gea has already decided to join Real Madrid, yet this story appears to be developing in a manner that may yet end successfully for United.
Some cynics have suggested that even if De Gea signs a new United deal, he could still make a move to Real Madrid this summer or a year from now, but it seems as if his move back to Spain is no longer as clear cut as it once seemed.
Meanwhile, reports in Germany suggest Bayern Munich may be tempted to enter the race to sign Gareth Bale if he leaves Real Madrid this summer, with United believe to be at the head of the queue to sign the Welshman if he is sold by the Spanish giants.
