Daniel Sturridge - I'm fit and ready to go
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has declared he is eager to make a return to first team action at Manchester City this weekend.
Sturridge's injury woes has been a long-running theme for Liverpool over the last couple of seasons, with new boss Jurgen Klopp inheriting a problem that helped to contribute to the downfall of his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The England striker has played just three games this season and some have accused him of refusing to play through any kind of pain barrier for the good of the Liverpool cause.
Yet after skipping international duty over the last couple of weeks, he has confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that he is ready to play again.
“I’m fit and ready to go and it’s going to be a great time for me," he stated.
“It’s been great under the new manager. I’ve been back training for the past couple of days and I was training when he first arrived.
“It’s an exciting time to be at the club and I’m enjoying working with him and the style of football. It’s important for us to understand what he wants us to do.”
Sturridge believes Liverpool have a real chance to get into the mix for honours this season, as he suggested the race for the top places has never been more open.
“The Premier League is the best league in the world in terms of competitiveness. There are teams up there this season you wouldn’t have expected," he added.
“It’s up for grabs this season, there isn’t a real favourite. It will come down to who can be the most consistent.”
