Damien Duff appears to be on the brink of fulfilling one of his stated dreams by playing for a League of Ireland club.

The former Blackburn, Chelsea, Newcatle and Fulham star always said that he wanted to play in the League of Ireland before he retired and now it appears that dream is set to come true.

A report in today's Irish Independent says that Duffer is close to putting pen to paper on a deal with Shamrock Rovers.

Duff signed up with Australian side Melbourne City last year but an ankle injury in February ended his season early.

It was always thought that he might play in Ireland as part of his rehab and with the transfer window now open it seems that Rovers have pipped St Pat's to the glamour signing.

Neither player nor club has confirmed the deal yet but if it goes through it will be great to see Duff strut his stuff on home turf for the first time.
