Confirmed - Neymar's advisers hand over €222m to trigger PSG move
Neymar's move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain will be completed imminently after his advisers handed over the €222m that triggers his release clause.
After a day of confusion following the Spanish league's move to try and block Neymar's move, Barcelona confirmed in a brief statement on Thursday evening that their Brazilian superstar would leave the club.
"On Thursday afternoon Neymar Jr's legal representatives visited in person the Club's offices and made the payment of 222 million euros in the player's name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties," they said in a statement.
"As such, the Club will pass on to UEFA the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case."
Reports suggest the deal to take Neymar to PSG on a five-year contract could now be finalised this week. The newspaper Le Parisien reported Neymar is set to earn 30 million euros (£27million) net per year, or close to 600,000 euros (£540,000) each week after tax.
With the transfer fee, the extraordinary wages and the likelihood of further fees involved in the deal, Neymar's prospective new employers would be making a statement of their financial muscle.
With Barcelona having publicly confirmed Neymar's desire to leave and his team-mate Lionel Messi wishing him good luck on social media, a deal that once appeared fanciful has now come to fruition.
PSG are planning a grand unveiling of Neymar in the coming days, with No.10 bearing his name already on sale in the French capital.
