Chelsea issue short statement of support for Mourinho
This afternoon Chelsea have issued a short statement of support for embattled boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho is under serious pressure after the club's dismal start to the campaign but he is adamant he won't quit the champions and the club have issued a statement backing their manager this afternoon.
The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support.
As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team's performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it.
Reports in Italy today suggested that Chelsea may try and bring in former boss Carlo Ancelotti, one of the two men Liverpool fancy to replace the now departed Brendan Rodgers.
Today's Gazzetta dello Sport links Carlo Ancelotti with a shock return to the Chelsea hot seat, four years after he left Stamford Bridge.
While at the helm of the Blues the Italian won the league and FA Cup double in 2010 before getting the boot a year later.
It seems that the Italian will decline any approach from Liverpool with the belief being he wants to return to football with a club that is in in the Champions League.
Chelsea fit that criteria but of course, they still have Jose Mourinho as their manager.
That would appear to leave the way open for former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp to take up the reins at Anfield.
The bookies have the German as the red-hot favourite to take over from Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked yesterday.
