Chelsea offer bait in their bid to recapture Romelu Lukaku
Manchester United are about to spend a fortune to buy back one of their former players - and now Chelsea look set to do something similar as they close in on a deal for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
With United ready to sanction a deal to sign Juventus Paul Pogba for a world record sum just four years after he was allowed to leave Old Trafford for nothing, Chelsea seem intent on correcting one of their transfer mistakes by brining Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.
Widespread reports suggest Chelsea are willing to sanction a £65m deal to bring Lukaku back to their club, two years after the powerhouse goal scorer sealed a £28m move to Everton.
After manager Jose Mourinho concluded that Lukaku would not make the grade on his squad, the Belgian marksman was allowed to leave Chelsea and he has gone on to enjoy a successful spell at Everton despite their woes on the field last season.
With Chelsea believed to be offering Loic Remy as part of the deal that would see Lukaku rekindle his Chelsea dream, Blues officials are increasingly optimistic that they will complete a deal that would represent a record transfer between British clubs.
It would also see Everton more than doubling their investment in a player who has scored 28 Premier League goals in the last two season.
Yet when you see this video of Lukaku setting eyes on Stamford Bridge for the first time back in 2010, it is pretty clear that he has a special place in his heart for Chelsea:
