Chelsea have opened transfer talks with Shakhtar Dontetsk as they look to strike a deal to sign Brazilian striker Alex Teixeira.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add some additional fire power to his strike force after a stuttering start to the season from his forward line, with Teixeira blasting a glut of goals for Shakhtar so far this season

“I’m glad to have received that proposal from Chelsea, they are a great club in Europe," stated the 25-year-old goal getter.

“It’s my dream (to play in England). I’ve spoken to many people who have the desire to play in the Premier League because I think it’s the best in the world, more contested, and I want to have this challenge in my career.

"What I’ve seen, and what my manager has said, is that Chelsea, Juventus and PSG made offers. But Chelsea and Juventus are deeper into negotiations. They’re three big clubs. Wherever I go, I’ll be happy."

Chelsea's move to sign a new striker is the first confirmation that the Blues intend to be active in the January transfer window, even though Mourinho has insisted he will not make fresh signings in January.

That view may be altered if he opts to move misfiring players out of his squad, with Radamel Falcao's future at Chelsea in doubt after a woeful start to his Stamford Bridge career.
