Chelsea confirm the signing of Asmir Begovic
Chelsea have swiftly filled the void left by the departed Petr Cech after they confirmed they have sign keeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke.
Chelsea have been chasing Begovic for the last few weeks, after they agreed to allow back-up keeper Cech to sign for London rivals Arsenal and their capture of another top class keeper is a coup for boss Jose Mourinho.
The Blues manager was keen to have a top quality back-up stopper to provide cover for first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois, with Begovic surprising many observers by agreeing to the role as deputy to the Belgian No.1.
Mourinho has promised Begovic game time in cup competitions and he will be relieved to have bolsters a position in his squad that could have undermined their trophy challenges next season if illness or injury befell Courtois.
Once again, this transfer highlights the increasingly dominant powerful of a handful of clubs in the Premier League, with Begovic happy to sway life as a first team star at Stoke for bench warming duties on a big salary at Chelsea.
Republic of Ireland veteran Shay Given arrived at Stoke last week as they prepared for Begovic's exit.
