Hot on the heels of agreeing a fee to let Jonny Evans leave the club it looks like another defender is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Reports in Scotland say that Celtic have agreed a deal that will bring Tyler Blackett to the SPL on a season-long loan.

The England U21 international was a fixture in Louis van Gaal's team at the start of last season before falling out of favour.

However, he penned a new deal at the club in February and looked set for a long stay at the Red Devils. That may now change as the loan deal is reported to have an option to buy, for £4m, if the clubs agree at the end of the season.

With Virgil van Dijk almost certain to leave Parkhead before the end of the transfer window, Blackett has been lined up Ronny Deila to shore up the defence.

In total Blackett played 11 times for Manchester United last season, his last appearance being as a sub in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in May.
