It seemed as if Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli was about to change professions and embark on a new role as a social media entertainer, but AC Milan are ready to confirm they have offered him a route back into the game.

Balotelli's former club are set to re-sign the player they sold to the Anfield club last summer, with a loan moved on the brink of being finalised after Liverpool agreed to pay some of his wages as he moves back to Italy

Balotelli has been left out of Liverpool's squad for this season after a disastrous first campaign at Anfield, with the Italian striker only making the news in recent months when he posts images on his Instagram account.

His move to post a picture of himself with the traffic warden that handed him a parking ticket in Liverpool created some social media interest, while he also offered up a video showing him being showed with champagne on his birthday.

In the opinion of Liverpool goal scoring great John Aldridge, Balotelli's time at Anfield has long since been up and he will be delighted to see the back of a player who scored just one Premier League goal last season.

"Balotelli thinks everything that happens in his world is a big fat joke, but the truth is he has become the joke at Liverpool," Aldo told the Sunday World.

"He needs to go out on loan or do whatever he needs to do to get his career back on track.

"The more you hear about this Italian striker, the more you realise Liverpool made a big mistake signing him last summer. We always knew the arrival was risky, but now we are appreciating how big a gamble it was.

"I would encourage Balotelli and his fellow outcast Fabio Borini to do the decent thing and appreciate that they need to kick-start their career somewhere else."
