Brendan Rodgers made maverick striker Mario Balotelli his surprise late signing in last summer's transfer window and a year later, he is urging the striker to pack his bags and get out of Anfield.

Balotelli's doomed stay at Anfield has yielded little success on the field and left Rodgers with plenty of questions to answer on why he signed the Italy forward, but it is clear that he wants him to make his exit in this transfer window.

After spending the last few weeks training with Liverpool's younger players and having no role in first team plans, Balotelli has been left in no doubt that he is no longer wanted at Anfield.

“He clearly knows his situation and where he’s at," stated Rodgers. "There’s nothing to add. All of the players understand where they’re at.

“My job is to create the best possible environment for the team to succeed. That’s what I’ve always done. So I’m not going to speak about Mario when I can speak about another 25 players.

“I’ll always treat individuals with respect and try to make sure they understand the situation, where they’re at. It’s then their choice.

“If the manager and the club give a player a situation, if they really want to play I’m sure they’ll find a solution. If they don’t, then at least they know where they stand.

"So I repeat, the environment we’ve created here is designed to get the maximum out of the players. I’ll always do what is best for the team.”

Reports have suggested that Balotelli is due for a big bonus if he stays at Liverpool beyond the end of this transfer window and it remains to be seen whether he will follow Rodgers' advice and leave the club in the next two weeks.
