Manchester United have missed out on the first of their big summer transfer targets after Benfica youngster Renato Sanches completed a move to Bayern Munich.

Reports in Portugal last week suggested Sanches was on the brink of a move to United, amid suggestions that his advisers have been in Manchester to finalise the deal.

Yet Bayern have now confirmed that they have won the race to snap up teenager Sanches, who has been hailed as one of the brightest starts in European football.

Bayern posted images of Sanches signing for Bayern alongside club official and former striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who offered these comments:

They also offered up this video of Sanches completing his medical:

This would appear to be a setback for United in their initial summer transfer movement, with widespread reports in Portugal over recent weeks suggesting Sanches would be sealing a mega-money switch to Old Trafford.

Yet it is Bayern and their new boss Carlo Ancelotti who will be benefitting from his youthful talents, in a deal believed to be worth in excess of €40m.
