Barcelona's new technical secretary Robert Fernandez has admitted Pedro could be about to leave his club, as Manchester United prepare to swoop for the Spanish forward.

United have held talks with Barcelona over a move for 28-year-old winger Pedro, as revealed in our Sunday World back page exclusive last month (below), but no agreement has been reached yet between the two clubs.

Barca have persistently claimed they are eager to hang on to Pedro, but the player is believed to have told his employers that he wants to seal a move to United and a deal may now be close.

Even though Pedro signed a new contract with Barcelona in June, it included a £22m buy-out clause that United look set to activate, with the player keen to avoid a season warming the bench behind Barca's first choice front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

Pedro's move to United may well have edged closer as Angel Di Maria's move to Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed and now Barcelona have conceded their winger could be set to seal a high profile move.

"He has a release clause of €30m, and we are waiting for someone to make the offer," stated Fernandez when asked about Pedro's future.

"His performance level is fantastic and the coach and we like him. We do not want him to go, but we know this is a risky situation, and we have to wait."

United boss Louis van Gaal will be eager to wrap up the move for Pedro swiftly as he looks to get off to a fast start in the upcoming Premier League campaign, as he is eager to improve on last season's faltering opening to the campaign.

There have been suggestions that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola may look to hijack United's hopes of signing a player he worked with during his time as Barca boss, but the Old Trafford giants appear to be in pole position to seal the deal.
