Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is reported to be on the brink of signing for Real Madrid, just a few days after reports claimed he was on his way to Arsenal.

We should be wary of reports from his native Chile that a deal is close to being struck for Vidal after the spurious reports of a week ago suggested a deal was 90 per-cent complete for the combative midfielder to join Arsenal, but these stories appear to carry a little more weight.

Manchester United were also heavily linked with a move to United last summer, yet it seems as if the Bernabeu will be his final destination, once his national team duties with Chile at the Copa America come to an end.

The signing of Vidal would be a major coup for Benitez as he looks to find his feet at Real Madrid, with the Spaniard's eagerness to stamp his own mark on the team he inherited from Carlo Ancelotti set to be defined by his early signings.

The future of defender Sergio Ramos will also be crucial to Benitez's hopes in his first season at Real Madrid, with Manchester United pushing hard to sign the Spanish World Cup winner.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Germany striker Lukas Podolski has left Arsenal, after signing a permanent deal with Turkish side Galatasaray.
