Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he is concerned about the fitness levels of his star man Alexis Sanchez after admitted he is "jaded" after draining schedule of matches in 2015.

Sanchez was a key man as Chile lifted the Copa America title last summer, but that meant he did not have an extended summer break ahead of the new Premier League season.

Now Wenger has suggested his attacking talisman may need to be given time off, with January a probable month for him to spend some time away from Arsenal first team duties.

Sanchez has just come back from South America after international duty with Chile, with Wenger admitting he is in danger of running out of energy in the run up to the hectic Christmas fixture list.

“I am worried because before he went away with Chile he was a bit jaded, but if I ask him ‘are you tired?’ you can guess the answer," stated Wenger.

“At some point I will give him a break. At the moment I am a bit short because there’s no Chamberlain, no Ramsey, no Walcott, no Wilshere, no Welbeck. There are not many offensive positions where I can rotate.”

Wenger believes his team are firmly in the mix to win the Premier League title this season, but he has warned his players that every rival in England's top flight are capable of taking points away from them this season.

“The difference between the teams has narrowed and today it’s more how much can you be close to your best that will decide the result, rather than the team you play against," he added."

“In the Premier League now every game is physical, fast, with two totally committed teams. You cannot afford to make a single mistake.”
