Arsene Wenger reveals he expects chase of top transfer target to fail
Arsene Wenger has revealed that he expects his bid to get Jamie Vardy to join Arsenal from Leicester to fail.
When news broke that Arsenal had met the release clause for the striker many expected the England man to agree to make the move to London.
But as time has dragged on the move became more and more unlikely, with Vardy himself reportedly telling international colleagues that he was '80 per cent' sure he was going to stay with the Foxes.
Now it seems the Arsenal boss has also given up hope of landing the red-hot striker.
In an interview with Japanese TV Wenger admitted he he expects Vardy to stay with the champions.
“Jamie Vardy, at the moment, is at Leicester,” he said, according to quotes on the Evening Standard. “On what I know he will stay at Leicester.”
Wenger, who is at Euro 2016 working for French TV, will now have to look elsewhere to add to his side's firepower, with Spain Alvaro Morata reportedly a target.
