Arsenal have a breakthrough in Alexandre Lacazette pursuit

Lacazette set to wave farewell to Lyon

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Arsenal are set to complete the signing of striker Alexandre Lacazette this week.

The Gunners have been in talks with Lyon over a deal for Lacazette over the last few weeks, but Aulas had previously stated that he would not allow the France striker to leave his club unless he signed a replacement.

Now he looks set to give the green light to the deal after all, as he confirmed in an interview with Le Progres.

“Alexandre Lacazette’s transfer to Arsenal could be actioned within the next day or two,” stated Aulas.

“The figure reported by the English media of around €67m (including €12m in add-ons) is impossible and not realistic. Arsenal’s first offer was around €45m, the transfer will be concluded in the range of €45m to €50m.

“It constitutes, without doubt, a record transfer fee for Arsenal and for Lyon of course.”

Aulas has tired to lure Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud to Lyon as part of the deal, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger appears to be keen to have both Lacazette and Giroud at his disposal heading into the new season.

There is also expected to be movement in resolving the future of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez in the coming days, after the Chilean confirmed he will finalise his next career move after playing in Sunday’s Confederations Cup final.

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he is interested in signing Sanchez, with interest from Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester City continuing.

“I like Alexis. If an opportunity comes up, the club will be ready,” said Ancelotti. “There are lots of rumours. Alexis is a great player but not the only one in the world.”
