Arsenal confident of beating out Manchester United to signing of star defender
The Gunners are leading to race to sign Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez, according to a report.
Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho will renew rivalries when the Premier League returns in August but their clubs are already battling it out in the transfer market.
German publication Kicker has said that Arsenal believe they will clinch the signing of Switzerland left-back Rodriguez ahead of the Red Devils, according to the Express.
The 23-year-old defender is the subject of much Premier League interest, with the Gunners said to be out in front of United in the race for his signature.
Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the defender, with his father, who doubles as his agent, telling a Spanish radio station in April that he had been speaking to Florentino Perez about his son's future.
Rodriguez, who will represent his country at Euro 2016, has a reported £19million release clause which Arsenal could trigger following a recommendation from club coach Andries Jonker.
Jonker, now head of the Gunners' youth academy, was previously assistant manager at Wolfsburg.
Rodriguez scored twice and assisted three times in 24 Bundesliga appearances this season, while also both scoring and assisting once during nine Champions League starts.
