Adnan Januzaj is heading back at Manchester United, after his loan at Borrusia Dortmund was brought to a premature conclusion.

Januzaj was allowed to leave United last summer after boss Louis van Gaal decided the 20-year-old Belgian international did not fit into his plans for this season.

Yet the winger has struggled to make his mark at Dortmund, with their coach Thomas Tuchel failing to hand him a single start in a Bundesliga game this season.

That sparked a discussion between the two clubs over Januzaj's future, with the decision for him to return to United leaving the youngster with an uphill battle to make his mark under Van Gaal's guidance.

Januzaj was seen as the rising start of the United side during David Moyes' brief and turbulent reign as the club's manager, but Van Gaal quickly came to the conclusion that he had better options in wide positions.

The poor form of summer signing Memphis Depay may open the door for Januzaj to force his way back into the first team reckoning at United, with a lack of attacking pace a major concern for Van Gaal in the first half of the season.
