Shamrock Rovers have sacked manager Pat Fenlon after the club deemed Thursday night's 2-0 Europa League defeat to Finnish side RoPS Rovaniemi to be unacceptable.

Fenlon, who enjoyed huge success in charge of Rovers' arch rivals Bohs, struggled to win over the fans at Tallaght Stadium who felt his sides were never pleasing on the eye.

Fenlon failed to mount a serious challenege to Dundalk's domestic dominance and Thursday night's disappointing display in Europe was seen by the board as the final straw.

The club released an official statement, saying:

'Shamrock Rovers Football Club wishes to announce that it has parted company with First team manager Pat Fenlon with immediate effect.

The Board of Directors would like to place on record their thanks for the dedication and commitment Pat has shown over the course of three seasons with the club.

Everyone at the club wishes Pat all the best in the future.

There will be no further comment from the club on this matter.'
