The young son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has been involved in a high speed crash as he attempts to launch his own racing career.

Mick Schumacher, 15, joined Van Amersfoort Racing earlier this month and was practising on the Lausitzring speedway track in Brandenburg when the incident happened last weekend, according to German newspaper Die Welt.

German publication Bild have posted this video of Schumacher Jnr practicing on the track where the crash too place, with the youngster not believed to have been seriously injured in the smash.

Schumacher's son is showing real signs of promise at the start of his racing career and there are high hopes that he could follow his father into Formula 1.

Updates on the condition of Michael Schumacher have been few and far between in recent months, with the seven-time F1 champions still making slow progress in his recover from a skiing accident in December 2013.

He is currently at home with his family, with their desire for privacy ensuring the public have not caught a glimpse of the German sporting icon since he was carried off the Swiss mountain where he suffered his accident that left him with serious brain injuries.
