The Irish women's cross country team have won bronze medals at the European Championships in Hyeres, France.

Two-time European individual champion, Fionnuala McCormack, led the team home with a fourth place finish.

McCormack was followed home by Lizzie Lee, Caroline Crowley and Ciara Durkan who all delivered strong performances to secure team bronze for Ireland behind Britain and France.

“The plan last night was for us all to come through” said Lizzie Lee, who came home in 13th place.

"I knew I had to go out fast,” explained a delighted Lee.

“It’s thrilling to see all this team coming through” added Lee who was also on the team that won the European cross country in 2012.

Mick Clohisey was the best of the Irish men finishing in 37th, with the team taking eleventh spot.
