Hurling legend Henry Shefflin says his young son is making progress in his recovery from a lawnmower accident.

Henry Jnr (6) sustained a foot injury in the incident at the family home in Co Kilkenny last month.

The former All-Star hurler has paid tribute to the staff at Crumlin Children's Hospital for the treatment his son received.

Henry and his wife Deirdre have four children; Sadhbh, Henry Jr, Siún and Freddie.

Writing in his column in today's Irish Independent Sport, the 10-time All-Ireland winner says Henry Jnr is "doing extremely well and continues to make progress".

"Deirdre, myself and our children will never be able to fully thank the countless number of people who have sent us so much support and prayers in recent weeks.

"Their kindness is so much appreciated," he says.
