Pat Spillane's 10-point plan to beat the Dubs
The Kerry pundit has the blueprint for success against the All-Ireland champions.
You’ve got to match them for fitness and pace.
You have to put pressure on Stephen Cluxton’s kickouts. Giving Dublin uncontested possession is football suicide.
You must work Cian O’Sullivan. Take him out of the wonderful comfort zone that means he can read the opposition’s attacks all day. Whisper it quietly, but might Kerry put James O’Donoghue on him this afternoon.
You must go with every Dublin runner, no matter how many Kerrymen’s lungs are saying ‘no more’.
Kieran Donaghy (main pic) must be started at full-forward and pump high ball in at him.
Run at the Dubs and force them on to the back foot.
Play the game on your terms, not Dublin’s.
Occasionally slow the game down, to stop Dublin getting momentum.
Don’t concede close-in frees. Dean Rock just won’t miss.
Finally Kerry must show the Dubs that today is going to be different. Their body language and attitude must be different, they must believe in themselves and play attacking football to emerge victorious.
