Dublin have won a fifth Leinster U-21 football Championship in seven years.

They held off a brave Kildare challenge on a 3-10 to 1-12 scoreline in a fine game of football with not a blanket to be seen anywhere.

Dublin did the damage in their full-forward line where Cormac Costello, Conor McHugh and Colm Basquel combined to score 3-5 from play between them. They would have won this match comfortably but for squandering several handy scoring chances.

In fact, the young Dubs kicked 13 wides in all. Kildare were right in this match ten minutes into the second half, when they led by two points and were on top. But Dublin's third goal, poached from close range by Costello, turned the tide and Dublin ran out good winners.

Kildare forward Neil Flynn from the Maynooth club didn't deserve to finish on the losing side. He scored 11 points in a great display, four from play, five frees and two 45's.

He may get a call up to the senior side for Kildare's vital League game against Galway on Sunday, especially as Niall Kelly, who is on Jason Ryan's senior side, limped out of the game with a few minutes left with what looked like a bad ankle injury.
