English, Murray and Everard through to 800m semi-finals at Euro indoors in Prague
European 800m bronze medallist Mark English is through to the semi-final of the event at the indoor Euro championships in Prague.
The Letterkenny medical student won his heat in 1:48.10 to automatically qualify for tomorrow's semi-final. He will be joined in the race by his team mate Declan Murray who finished second in his heat in 1:49.69 to automatically go through.
In the women's 800m Ciara Everard from Kilkenny is also through to the semi-finals. She finished third in her heat in a seasonal best of 2:02.67.
She went through as a fastest loser - she was the seventh fastest overall. The women's semi-final is also scheduled for tomorrow.
On his international debut Dara Kervick won his heat in the 400m in 47.03 to advance but he bowed out after a brave run in the semi-final. He found himself in the same race as local hero and reigning world and European indoor champions Pavel Maslak.
The top two finishers were guaranteed a place in the final. The Kilkenny native was third coming down the final straight but Belorussia's Aliaksandr Linnik just got ahead of him. Kervick's time of 46:96 wasn't good enough to get him through as a fastest qualifier.
There was no joy for 60m hurdler Gerard O'Donnell who failed to advance after finishing sixth in 8.06 in his heat.
