Brendan Rodgers has denied that he had a fall-out with Raheem Sterling, prior to the player signing for Manchester City.

The player's agent had claimed that there had been a total breakdown in the relationship between the pair but Rodgers said that was not true.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday, the Northern Irishman said the way the transfer saga was reported in the media was not an accurate reflection of the way the deal was done in reality.

Rodgers described Sterling as "a fantastic boy" and went as far as to say that "when I left Liverpool, Raheem was one of the first people to text me."

Rodgers also stated his belief that Steven Gerrard will return to work at Liverpool in the future.

"As a captain and a leader, he was absolutely brilliant for me," Rodgers said.

"There's no doubt at some point he'll come back, he can be a huge asset to the club."
