It's official: Mayweather v McGregor to take place August 26
Respected fight journalist for Yahoo Sports Kevin Iole has reported that a deal is done for Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather to fight in Las Vegas on August 26.
Speculation on that date for the much talked about clash had ramped up this week with Mayweather applying to the Nevada Athletic Commission regarding a boxing event on August 26 this year.
That request was approved today and that now seems to have been the finals hurdle to be cleared.
Iole says he expects Mayweather to announce the bout soon, possibly in the next few hours.
The event venue on the application was MGM Grand Garden but Iole reports that the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas may also host the event.
Mayweather, whose last fight was in 2015, has fought exclusively in the MGM for the last ten years.
The UFC does not have an event of any kind scheduled for that date.
UFC President Dana White previously stated that if McGregor-Mayweather does happen, it would be a regular boxing pay per view event staged by Mayweather Promotions.
McGregor has also just tweeted about the fight, claiming 'The fight is on' using a picture of himself alongside Floyd Mayweather Snr.

Mayweather Jnr has also confirmed the fight, in a more conventional way.
