Surprise, surprise, Manny Pacquiao wants a rematch with Mayweather too
According to Bob Arum, Pacquiao would be open to accepting the rematch offer made by Mayweather yesterday.
Arum, who is Pacquiao's promoter, was speaking to ESPN in the wake of Floyd Mayweather's assertion to a journalist yesterday that he was open to a rematch of the so-called 'Fight of the Century' that disappointed the world at the weekend.
The issue over the health of Pacquiao, who it is reported will need surgery on a rotator cuff in his shoulder which could spell a year on the sidelines, will need to be managed but aside from that, it seems liek all systems go for Mayweather v Pacquiao 2.
“I think we now know what the pitfalls were,” Arum told ESPN. “And, ultimately, with all the aggravation and trouble, look at the pot of gold that we both produced. I think there will probably be less aggravation in a rematch. We understand each other better now. There’s a real possibility it could work even better.
“We first have to make sure the rotator cuff heals well,” Arum said. “[Pacquiao’s surgeon] Dr ElAttrache is a famous surgeon, one of the best in the business, so I’m confident the surgery will work, and if it does, why wouldn’t we entertain a rematch?”
Arum also has some advice for Mayweather, saying the undefeated champions would be better off skipping his proposed fight against an as yet unnamed foe in September and waiting to fight the Filipino man in 12 months.
