Michael O'Reilly wins gold for Ireland in Baku
The Portlaoise man won the middleweight class with a superb win over local fighter Xaybula Musalov
O'Reilly matched the exploits of Katie Taylor by also winning his gold medal bout at the inaugural European Games in Baku.
O'Reilly traded blows with his foe in the opening round, a real slug fest that went the way of the Irishman on the judges' cards.
Musalov, roared on by the home crowd, was the aggressor in the second and while O'Reilly never took a backward step, the judges gave the nod to the Azeri, setting up a grandstand finish.
Another superb round took place and it genuinely could have gone either way.
But in the end the referee raised the Irishman's hands to the delight of the small Irish contingent in the arena.
