Katie Taylor has struck gold for the 18th time at a major championships.

She outclassed French lightweight Estelle Mossely in the final of the inauguarl European Games in Baku.

After a slightly below key first round the 28-year-old Olympic champion controlled the fight.

Mossely, who had lost on two previous occasions to the Bray boxer, lacked nothing in effort or spirit.

Taylor's ability to hit cleaner punches and catch the eye of the judges with flurries in the closing seconds of each of the four rounds laid the foundation for the win.

One judge gave her French opponent the first round, but the other two judges sided with Taylor, who won the next two rounds on all three judges' card for an overall 40-36; 40;36 39-37 victory.

Next stop for Katie is next year's World Championships in Astana.

Katie’s success brings her overall medal tally at major championship to 18 compromising of five World title, six Europeans, five European Unions, one Olympic and now a European Games gold medal.

She has now won 57 fights in succession stretching back to her last controversial defeat in 2011.

Her record in championship events is even more impressive.

She has won 67 championship bouts on the spin and her overall record championship event is 71-3. And her overall fight record is now 159 wins from 166 contests!
