John Aldridge’s charity bets on have secured thousands of euros for Dublin’s Temple Street children’s hospital over the course of the latest soccer season - and his betting expertise also ensured a stag party enjoyed a windfall to remember

Aldo has been winning money for Dublin’s Temple Street Children’s hospital in his weekly punts on the Sunday World website, with a run of successful predictions encouraging best man Martin Curran to prompt his pals to back one of his bets.

“We were away on a stag do for my brother Gearóid and our pal Féilim Mac An Iomaire from Paddy Power was with us,” Martin told the Sunday World.

“Féilim told us about the bet Aldo was going to do for the Sunday World and it looked like a winner, so we got the deposit we had put down for the stag weekend and threw €30 each into the pot.

“We needed Tottenham and Manchester City to win by two or more goals on the final day of the Premier League season and they delivered in the grand manner with big wins.

“Our collection of €30 bets results in winnings of €2240 and even if that sounds like a decent windfall, we drank a hell of a lot that weekend celebrating our win so there is no getting it back now!”

Aldo handed over a €5000 cheque to Temple Street last year from his  winnings and he will be boosting the hospital coffers once again when he hands over another hefty cash sum in the coming weeks.
