Brian McEvoy was the toast of Fermanagh last weekend as he battled it out with a huge salmon of 12lbs 8oz on the River Drowes in savage conditions.

Only a handful of anglers braved the elements and Brian banked his cracking fish from the mill pool where it latched onto a yellow belly devon.

It’s AGM time across the country as we look forward to another trout season.

On Friday night February 14th Lough Bane anglers will host their annual general meeting.

The venue is Moylagh community hall, Co. Meath. It’s an 8pm start.

Here in the midlands we start our trout season on March 1st.

The Newbury Hotel situated in Mullingar has some fantastic mad march offers for anglers.

It’s a hot spot for visiting anglers and is only two Minutes from the train station.

Local guides are available and you can be collected at the hotel for your days fishing and dropped back for a great nights entertainment and food.

Also ask about the new Tatty Mews self catering cottage, if you fancy bringing the family.

Check it on www.newburyhotel.ie or call Mairead on 044-93-42888.
