Irish three day eventer, Padraig McCarthy has walked away unhurt after a spectacular fall during the cross country section of the event in Rio today.

McCarthy, who was lying 26th in the individual competition after the two-day dressage section, was thrown off his horse Simon Porloe but fortunately for the rider he fell in a different direction and far enough away to avoid his tumbling horse.

Both appeared unhurt after the mishap and walked away, though McCarthy was unable to compete the rest of the round.

Ireland's four member team was lying fifth after the dressage section of the three discipline event.
