Young woman dead, another seriously injured in road traffic incident
Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic incident in the early hours of the morning which has resulted in the death of a young woman.
Two women in their early 20s were discovered with serious injuries at the roadside last night.
Officers said they were found at the Barna Road-Moycullen Road juncture at approximately 2.20am.
They both received urgent medical assistance at the scene and were subsequently rushed to University Hospital Galway for further attention.
However, one woman was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem is being arranged to determine the cause of death.
It is understood both women fell from a moving van out onto the road.
The second woman remains in stable condition, Gardai said.
Gardai have closed off the scene for a technical examination. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are also on their way to the scene.

No arrests have yet been made and investigations are ongoing, Gardai added.
They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
