Gardai are investigating a fatal road collision which has claimed the life of a young man.

Officers in Mayo are investigating the single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 6.30pm yesterday evening. 
A 20-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a tree on the old Ballina to Foxford road, approximately 2 miles outside Ballina.
He was the sole occupant of the car, authorities said. Emergency services were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to the Mortuary at Castlebar Hospital where a post mortem is due to take place later today. 
The road is currently closed, and Garda Forensic Collision investigators will examine the scene this morning. Local diversions are in place, gardai added. 
The identity of the young man has not yet been released by authorities.
