A woman has been restrained on board a flight from Boston to London.

It is believed that the plane, Flight BA 213 from London Heathrow, landed safely at around 6.30pm Irish time.

Massachusetts State Police said the woman was detained in the air on flight BA 213 after "trying to enter the cockpit".

The police force said on Twitter that officers were at Boston's Logan International Airport "to take custody of the restrained passenger" and investigate the incident.

Police later said the woman was "intoxicated" and tried to open the exit door, rather than the cockpit.

There was "no known nexus to terrorism", police added.
