Woman killed and man hospitalised in two-car collision

A woman has died and a man hospitalised in an early-morning collision, gardai said.

Gardai are investigating the two-vehicle collision which occurred early this morning. 

The collision occurred on Clones Road in the townland of Aghalisk, Monaghan at approximately 7.50am this morning. 
 
A female driver in her mid 50s was fatally injured, authorities said. 
 
Emergency services were called but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her her body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital.
 
The male driver of the second vehicle, who was also in his 50s, was also removed to hospital but his injuries are described as non life-threatening.
 
The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision investigators are at the scene. Local diversions are in place.

The latest tragedy on our roads brings the total number of people killed to 128 so far.
