Woman killed after being struck by car in Galway

A 24-year-old woman has died after two pedestrians were hit by a car in Galway last night.

The incident occurred at Aucloggeen, Claregalway, County Galway this morning, just after midnight at around 12.30am.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pair were walking just off the N17 when the incident occurred.

The other pedestrian - a young man who is also aged 24 - was taken to University College Hospital Galway with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene and diversions are in place.

"Two pedestrians were struck by a car just off the N17 at Aucloggeen," a garda spokesman said. "A female, 24 years, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at scene. Her body was taken to University College Hospital Galway where a post mortem is to be arranged."
