Woman issues description of man who ‘attempted to sexually assault her'

A young woman has issued a description of a man who allegedly attempted to sexually assault her as she walked home yesterday evening.

The woman was walking in the Shankill area of south Dublin when the man in his mid-forties attempted to drag her into an area of trees.

The young woman described how she was walking by a shop near the Dart Station on Sunday evening at approximately 7pm when she noticed a man "lingering on the path".

"I obviously thought it was a bit odd so I just spend up and overtook him on the path," she said.

"I had my headphones in, which was a really bad idea as I didn't hear his footsteps, and he ended up following me into my estate and attacked me and tried to sexually assault me when I was only a few metres from my own house.

"He tried to drag me into the trees, but thankfully I was able to get away by yelling my head off and giving him a sharp kick.

"I am very lucky to be pretty much unharmed, and he didn't see which house was mine," she added.

Gardai confirmed to that the incident has been reported to the gardai.

The young woman described the man as wearing a short, black puffy jacket. He had "dark, greyish hair and blue eyes".

He was approximately 5''10 in height and had a Dublin accent.

The woman wrote about her ordeal on Facebook and pleaded with people walking alone to be aware of their surroundings.

"I just felt like I should post this here as a warning to everyone to please be careful.

"If you see a strange man or woman, or anyone who looks sketchy just ring your parents or a friend and get home as quick as you can.

"Keep all your senses aware, no headphones in darker/quieter areas, and always stay near built-up areas if you can," she wrote.

The Facebook post has been shared thousands of times since it was posted this afternoon.
