A woman in her 40s fell to her death while climbing Stradbally Mountain near Dingle in Co Kerry, yesterday.

The woman is believed to have fallen into a river at the summit at 2pm and is thought to have died from her injures shortly afterwards.

Strong winds hampered the Shannon Rescue 115 Helicopter’s efforts to save the stricken climber.

It was 7pm before the rescue team arrived at the site to recover the woman’s remains.

Her body was removed to Kerry General Hospital where a post-mortem is due to be carried out.
