Wicklow woman finds €500k EuroMillions ticket in bottom of handbag
A Wicklow woman has spoken of her shock when she discovered a EuroMillions ticket worth €500,000 in the bottom of her handbag.
The woman and her husband were in National Lottery HQ yesterday to collect their cheque and they revealed just how they came to discover they had won a huge sum of cash.
The ticket was bought at a petrol station in Kilmacanogue for the EuroMillions draw on September 20.
But like many of us, she took her time to getting around to checking the numbers.
“Himself had given me a collection of tickets to check in the shop," the lucky lady told the National Lottery website. "I had them in my handbag for a few weeks. To think, I’d a ticket worth half a million euro in my handbag! I didn’t get around to checking them until yesterday and got a message on the scanner to contact the National Lottery.”
The husband also revealed how the win hit him.
“When she told me we’d won something on that ticket, I knew when I saw the numbers it was the EuroMillions Plus. I was very calm when I phoned the National Lottery to confirm. I read out the number on the ticket and was told we’d won half a million. Well, then I lost my calm. I’ve been shaking ever since.”
So far in 2016 21 people in Ireland have won the top prize of €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus draw.
