Wheels fall off ambulance as it transports patient
An investigation is underway after two wheels fell off an ambulance outside Sligo town on the 26th of August.
Sinn Fein councillor for Donegal Gerry McMonagle said:
“I understand there was a patient in the rear of the ambulance being transported to Galway for treatment.
“From what I’m told the situation could have been much worse but for the actions of the driver.
“There are now obvious questions which must be answered.
“Did this ambulance have an NCT and how was it in such a poor condition that the two back wheels came off it?”
Reports indicate that the ambulance had been taking a patient from Letterkenny, Co Donegal to Galway.
The HSE confirmed the incident and said that:
“A full investigation by the manufacturer and an independent company is now being conducted.
“There were 411,7856km on the vehicle and there is a full service history for this vehicle in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines. “
