WEATHER WARNING: Temperatures to plunge below -6 tonight

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow low temperature weather warning.

A very cold night is predicted with widespread frost and icy patches with the frost expected to be sever over Munster and south Leinster.

Mist is also expected to thicken into fog later on which will effect driving conditions.

The low temperature warning is for Wicklow, Waterford, Carlow, Kildare, Offaly, Kilkenny, Laois and Munster.

According to the Met office:

Minimum air temperatures of minus 3 or 4 degrees Celsius expected quite widely across Munster and south Leinster tonight, but locally minus 5 or 6 is possible in rural areas.

Status Yellow alerts are for weather conditions that do not pose an immediate threat to the general population, but only to those exposed to risk by nature of their location or activity.
