Davitt Walsh, the man who rescued four-month old baby Rionaghac-Ann in Buncrana, appeared on Good Morning Britain and host Susanna Reid teared up as he spoke about the events of Sunday evening.

Walsh spoke to Reid and co-host Piers Morgan from Derry as he prepared to go and meet Louise James, the woman who lost her partner, two sons, her sister and her mother in the desperate tragedy that occurred on Buncrana Pier.

Walsh movingly told the story of how he rescued the four-month old and how he had spoken to Sean McGrotty (49) in the moments before he disappeared under the water with the other people in the car, Evan (8) and Mark (12), Jodie Lee Daniel (14) and Ruth (59).

The courage displayed by Walsh, and the sadness of the events he witnessed left Reid visibly upset as Morgan praised him for his heroics in the face of such an awful situation.

Last night the bodies of the victims were brought back to the family home where Louise James helped to carry the five coffins into the home they once shared.

The funerals will take place tomorrow in Derry.
