Twenty eight people were killed in the attacks on Istanbul's airport with 60 wounded, the Turkish city's governor said.
Vasip Sahin also told Turkey's NTV television that three suicide bombers carried out the attack.
Officials had previously said one or two attackers had blown themselves up at the entrance to the international terminal at the airport after police fired at them.
All flights in and out of the airport have been cancelled.
Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs said tonight that it is monitoring developments in Istanbul and it is advising "a high degree of caution".
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that they have no reason to believe any Irish people were caught up in tonight's attack. They have had no requests for consular assistance but "stand ready" if any Irish citizens get in touch.
