Just six weeks after a spectacular light show caused by a missile test sent social media into a meltdown of speculation, the west coast of the US was treated to another 'UFO' last night.

At around 2am Irish time people in the states of California, Nevada and Arizona began to post on social media about a mysterious, fast moving light in the sky.

Some suggested a shooting star while others, of course, were thinking it might be a UFO.

However, the reality was much more mundane. According to ABC News, the fireball was caused by some debris falling from a Russian rocket.

U.S. Strategic Command spokeswoman Julie Ziegenhorn said it was an SL-4 rocket body booster from Russia that was launched Monday.

On November 8, there was an even more spectacular light show in the sky over the west coast of the US, which was also the subject of much debate on social media.

It turned out to be a missile test.
