An investigation at Dublin Bus has been launched after video footage emerged online appearing to show one of the company’s drivers telling a cyclist: “I will run your over.”

Cyclist Liam Phelan posted the footage to his YouTube channel and it shows a double-decker bus move into a cycle lane and almost collide with the bike.

The video, which was filmed on a GoPro-style camera on Mr Phelan’s bicycle helmet on Arron Quay in Dublin city centre, then shows him move to the driver’s side of the bus in order to speak to the driver.

The bus then stops and the driver opens his window.

Mr Phelan is seen in the video telling the driver that his bus moved across him into the cycle lane. However, the bus driver is heard replying: “Do you want to die? Just go in front of me. I’ll run you over, no problem.”

Again Liam is heard telling the driver that the bus was in the cycling lane and the drive says: “It doesn’t matter if it’s a cycling lane.”

The bus then moves off and when Mr Phelan catches up with it at traffic lights, he again confronts the driver and tells him he will hand the video footage over to gardai.

A spokesperson for Dublin Bus said it is “fully investigating” the incident and reviewing CCTV footage from the bus.

As of Wednesday night the incident had not been reported to gardai.
