Victorious Dubs turn city centre blue in celebrations

The capital’s main thoroughfare was turning into an ocean of blue this evening, as thousands turned out to congratulate the Dublin senior football GAA team on winning the Sam Maguire against Kerry yesterday.

The rain poured down during yesterday’s showpiece final – making it an extremely difficult affair for both sides – and the rain duly arrived once again as the massive crowd thronged to O’Connell Street to meet their heroes.

But spirits couldn’t be dampened, and the party mood continued on after the team left – after ‘singing’ some songs, as usual – and the players later departed on a bus to visit some GAA hang-outs.

The sky blue face paint may have been pouring down people’s cheeks, but so were the tears of joy among young and old.
