Raiders have damaged an ATM attached to the Permanent TSB branch in Greystones and made off with up to €100,000, according to reports.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating the incident that took place at approximately 4.20am this morning.

The ATM was extensively damaged during the course of the raid.

The scene is preserved for a technical examination and investigations are ongoing.

While gardai say it is not yet clear how much cash was taken in the raid, RTÉ are reporting that up to €100,000 could have been taken.

Today is Black Friday and a massive pre-Christmas spending spree is expected as stores offer sales to mark the start of the festive shopping period.

That leads to ATMs being used more frequently and only today gardai said they had launched a major operation to watch for cash-in-transit vans being robbed.
